A Fair Blast from the Past
We were 16 years old then, back in 1971. And yes we were there, plonked down about twenty feet from the stage, in front of a TV camera position. Word had got around that Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span were playing on the beach and it was being recorded for Granada TV’s Out Front programme. People turned up all weekend thinking it was a full blown festival. It was a pity Sandy Denny had left Fairport two years earlier.

I was there! I remember that I felt that I didn’t really look the part as I went straight from work.
The event itself was very short. An hour?
I’m sorry I didn’t hang around afterwards because I believe lots of people did and there was an impromptu acoustic music session.
