Last weekend’s Air Show saw cars parking on the Coast Road when traffic to the car parks ground to a halt. The Coast Road itself then had to be closed and was still closed at 7pm long after the Air Show finished.

Local residents and town centre workers were up in arms when the traffic gridlock prevented them from getting home or keeping appointments.

The Southport Air Show has seen huge growth over the years. It brings large numbers of visitors to the Beach area, all of whom buy tickets for the event. However few linger in the town itself and local traders complain that it is of little benefit to shop keepers and restaurants. Calls are made annually to make the event more relevant to the town as a whole.
