We were 16 years old then, back in 1971. And yes we were there, plonked down about twenty feet from the stage, in front of a TV camera position. Word had got around that Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span were playing on the beach and it was being recorded for Granada TV’s Out Front programme. [...]

Its still cold outside and the gritters can be seen regularly salting the roads at night… but Southport gardens are showing the first sparks of Spring as the crocuses poke through and bring some bright colour after one of the coldest winters of recent years.

Southport has been under a white blanket, like the rest of the country, since 5th January. Main roads like Lord Street, the Coast Road and Norwood Avenue have been clear. But other heavily trafficed routes, like Hesketh Drive, though passable remain covered in snow and ice. Arterial routes such as the Tarelton By-pass are clear. [...]

Man pulled from Docks (0)

The body of a Southport man, who had been missing for almost two weeks, was pulled from the docks by police divers at Seaforth last Friday. A passer-by described events as a tragic accident. The man’s relatives have been informed.
